Help Me Help You — Why Your Engagement Matters More Than You Think

I want to talk about something that doesn't really get explained. As a Videographer, I don't just show up to these events with a camera and hope for the best.

I'm hired.

These rodeo committees and organizations bring me in specifically to capture and create content that helps promote their events — to tell their story in a way that reaches beyond the arena fence and into the feeds of people who weren't there.

That's the job. And I take it seriously.

From the Wildwood Bronc Bustin' Ranch Rodeo, to the multi-day Peers Gold Dust Daze, to the Beaver Meadows Ranch Rodeo nestled in those breathtaking fall colours, to the massive WRA sanctioned Medicine Lodge Rodeo with the one and only Squirrely Early Anderson, all the way through to the Brule Community Society's longstanding historic Ruffout Rodeo at the foot of the Canadian Rockies — these events trust me with their story. Every single one of them is working hard behind the scenes. Committees made up of volunteers who give up their weekends, their evenings, their personal time — all to keep these traditions alive for the next generation.

And here's the hard truth. The ALGORITHM doesn't care about any of that.

It doesn't care that a committee member spent six months organizing logistics. It doesn't care that a stock contractor hauled animals hundreds of kilometres. It doesn't care that I stood in the dirt all day and then spent hours in front of my computer making one videos.

The algorithm only speaks one language — engagement.

Comments. Shares. Saves. Likes. Watch time.

Every time you watch a reel all the way through — that's a signal.

Every time you drop a comment, tag a friend, or share something to your story — that's the algorithm being told this content matters and it should show it to more people.

More people means more awareness. More awareness means more attendees, more sponsors, more support for the very events that keep this sport alive in our communities.

So when you see content from any of these events — stop for a second. Watch it through. Leave a comment. Share it with someone who loves this sport or someone who's never seen it before.

Because behind every reel is a community of people who poured everything they had into making that event happen. The least we can do is make sure the world sees it.

Help me help them. Help me help you. Let's make that algorithm work for the sport we love. 🤠
